World Series!
"Prince" Hal Chase Named Series MVP

October
9, 1909 -
The Broadway
Bombers are the 1909 World Champions after defeating the Macon Marauders 4
Games to 1. Pitcher Eddie Cicotte was the pitching star of the series,
going 1-0 with a masterful 1-hit Shutout in Game 3 which turned the tides in
the series. "Prince" Hal Chase won the series MVP
award, batting .333 with clutch hits throughout the series, and also added 5
runs, 4 stolen bases and 3 RBI's. For a complete recap of the World Series,

Broadway Bombers land
Knuckleballer Eddie Cicotte
Broadway also lands 3rd Baseman George
Moriarty
November
20, 1908 - After losing the World Series again, the Broadway Bombers were in
no position to stand pat, and rumors had been flying that a shakeup was
coming. And come it did. The Bomber send half of there rotation
away, trading Bob Rhoads, Fiddler Corridon, Babe Adams, Tom Tuckey and Pete
Wilson to the Frisco Aces for shine baller Eddie Cicotte and infielder
George Moriarty. "Had to make a change," said GM Aloysius See,
"Cicotte is a great young pitcher, and we have been lacking an ace.
Moriarty is a versatile infielder and solid hitter that we can put anywhere
in the lineup. While it is sad to see a World Series hero (Rhoads) and
some long time Bombers go, we are looking to the future, and Cicotte will be
a big part of it.
Broadway Bombers win 3rd
straight pennant, but lose to Maumees in World Series
Broadway topped by the Toledo Maumees as
the two teams meet in their 3rd consecutive World Series
October
9,
1908 - The Broadway Bombers, fresh off of their 3rd straight pennant,
had high hopes of avenging their 1907 World Series loss to the Toledo
Maumees. It was not to be, as the Maumees defeated the Bombers 4 games
to 1 to capture their 2nd straight flag. Still, it was another great
season for the Bombers, who were not even expected to make it to the fall
classic. Honus Wagner is likely to win the league MVP award, winning
the batting crown with a .324 BA, 31 doubles and 21 triples. He also
added 6 Home runs. On the mound, the team was again led by
"Wild" Bill Donovan, who tied for a team high 18 wins and struck out a team
record 225 batters. He also won the teams lone World Series victory.
Smokey Joe Wood and Buck
Herzog join Broadway Bombers
New York lands two of the top hitting and
pitching prospects in the country in 1908 Rookie Draft
November
16,
1907 - The Broadway Bombers Rookie Draft Day brought a few nice
surprises this year. First, the Bombers surprisingly landed RHP Smokey
Joe Wood with their 1st RDP. Wood joins Babe Adams and
Colby Jack Coombs in the future Broadway rotation, giving the Bomber three
potential aces. Next, Broadway GM Aloysius See discovered a gem in the
second round, selecting superb young infielder Buck Herzog. "We were
hoping to land Wood," said an excited See, "but we never expected to land a
player the caliber of Herzog in Round 2. We are very very pleased."
Bombers Lose heartbreaking
1907 World Series in 7 games
After going down 3 games to 1, The Dutchman
leads the fight back to force Game 7, but run out of steam in the end
October
15, 1907 - The Broadway Bombers battled all season. When it looked
like they would lose the pennant to the Hoboken Zephyrs, they battled back
and won it. When they were down 3 games to 1 in the World Series
against the Maumees, they battled back again, tying the series at 3 games
apiece, but in the end, they ran out of steam in game 7, losing to the
Maumees and ending their fine season just one game shy if defending their
1906 World Championship.
Defending Champs reclaim
1st Place heading into September
After struggling through most of the
season, the Champs storm back into 1st place by 2 games
September 1, 1907 -
It's been a long season fot the Broadway Bombers that at one point, saw them
trailing by seven games in the American League. But the champs have
shown their heard, lead by their manager John J. McGraw (pictured left) and
their best hitter Honus Wagner, the Bombers have reclaimed 1st palce by two
games over several teams heading into September. "We were never out of
it," said McGraw, who has put the team in new black broadcloth uniforms
heading into September, "We will do everying we can to secure this pennant,
and I will make sure the team is doing whatever it takes to make it happen."
Pitcher Babe Adams is
surprise First Round Pick by the Bombers
The young starting pitcher falls deeper
then expected into the draft, allowing the Bombers to pick him at 12th
January
21, 1907 -
The Broadway
Bombers were sitting with the 12th pick in the 1907 Rookie Draft and were
not sure whom they would take going into draft day. But never in their
wildest dreams would they have imagined they would have landed a potential
superstar pitcher like Babe Adams. That's just what happened.
Adams surprisingly fell to the Bombers and they happily took the young
lefty. "We did not expect Babe to be there," said team GM Aloysius
See, "He probably fell due to his age, but we are willing to wait on a
pitcher who has the potential to be the ace of our staff for a long time."
The Bombers used the remainder of the draft to fill some holes for the
upcoming season in their attempt to defend their SPB-100 World Championship.
